Ekjute has pioneered various forms of theatre
since its formation in 1981 under the able guidance of Mrs.
Nadira Zaheer Babbar. Ekjute has set trends and standards in
doing & projecting good and meaningful theatre. It has been
recognized as a leading Hindi Theatre Group performing many
excellent plays of various forms in several parts of India as
well as abroad.
· Ekjute has put
to life on stage works of many eminent playwrights like Bhas,
Bertolt Brecht, Albert Camus, Agha Hashr Kashmiri, Badal Sircar,
Jaywant Dalvi, John Osborne, Eugene O’Niel, Arthur Miller,
Shanta Gandhi, and Dario Fo. Ekjute has always performed plays
that are internationally renowned and have a distinct style.
· Ekjute has been
providing a platform to various artists like Anupam Kher, Kiran
Kher, Aloknath, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sarita Joshi, Anita Kanwar,
Satish Kaushik, Raja Bundela, Ravi Baswani, Kavita Chaudhary,
Suhmita Mukherjee, Girja Shankar, Rajesh Puri, Rajendra Gupta,
Deepak Qazir, Lalit Parimoo, Zakir Hussain, Rajendra Chawla,
Rakesh Mehra, Rahul Chaudhary, Seema Kapoor, Sunil Sinha, Neha
Sharad, Mandakini Goswami etc. to express their talents. These
artists have been successful in creating a niche for themselves
in the field of films and television by their thought provoking
acting and hence establishing & enhancing Ekjute’s belief in
their talent.
· Ekjute has never
intended to be a very specialist or elitist group hence to
ensure that its meaningful theatrical work is viewed across
various sections of society, it has performed in various cities.
It has received heart warming and enthusiastic response in
Dubai, Bombay, Delhi, Calcutta, Bangalore, Chandhigarh, Lucknow,
Bhopal, Gwalior, Shimla, Bilaspur, Jhansi, Raipur, Ludhiana etc.
· Ekjute has
always encourage and nurtured talent to flourish in the field of
direction by giving opportunity to various persons like Satish
Kaushik, Raja Bundela, Ravi Baswani, Jairoop Jeevan, Darpan
Mishra, Atul Tiwari, Anand Mishra, Rakesh Parmar, B.M. Vyas both
from within the group and outside it.
· Ekjute has
provided opportunity to express their writing abilities to
theatre persons like Aslam Parvaiz, Satish Kaushik, Atul Tiwari
some of whom have now ventured into films.
· One of its
recent production “Dayashankar Ki Diary”, a monologue, has been
hailed as a significant play to be staged in the decade both in
India and abroad. This play has not only given immense
satisfaction to the extremely talented artist Mr. Ashish
Vidyarthi but has also won him applause from the general
audience as well as the critics.
· Its other
current production “Sakubai” premiered in Prithvi Festival, a
major event in Hindi Theatre, with veteran actress Mrs. Sarita
Joshi whose name needs no introduction, written & directed by
Mrs. Nadira Zaheer Babbar.
· Ekjute takes
great pride in performing to the audiences, “Yahudi Ki Ladki” by
Agha Hashr Kashmiri, is an Authentic Parsi Theatre Play full of
grandeur, drama, style, music, dance, comedy & tragedy. It is a
classical play performed in the original stylised method of
acting prevalent in those years. An earnest effort is made to
retain the original form of Parsi Theatre by ensuring that the
Comic Interludes are included which are in no way connected to
the main plot, but are an integral part of the form of Parsi
Theatre. It was staged at Bharat Rang Mahotsava, the National
School Of Drama Festival - the most prestigious festival in
India, New Delhi, as one of the leading play for the above
festival. It has won critical acclaim as well as public
admiration wherever it has been performed.
· Over the last
five years, Ekjute has been regularly conducting annual
workshops for different age groups, through which those who have
an aptitude & dedication for theatre are encourage to join
Ekjute. It has also conducted children’s workshops for
encouraging and promoting theatre at a very young age. It has
also produced children’s plays namely “Aao Picnic Chalien” and
“Azdak ka Insaaf”, which got excellent response from both
audience and critics.
· Ekjute has
always been very keen to perform meaningful theatre in various
forms. Ekjute wants to reach out to the people and unfold to
them the warmth, the excitement and the magic of theatre, thus
contributing to society in its own unique way.
