The production is a compilation
of stories written by the renowned Hindi writer
Premchand. Four famous humorous stories written by
Munshiji (as Premchand is lovingly called); namely,
Darogaji, Bade Bhaisahab, Rasik Sampadak and Aansuon ki
Holi would be presented together.
• Darogaji… A story about a lovable Darogaji who finds
himself running back to is forlorn lover and finding
himself at the mercy of her husband and how he finds
his way our of it, makes an interesting story that
leaves you in splits.
• Bade Bhaisahab…bringing to light two very innocent
characters, two brothers and their simple, amusing and
entertaining ‘nok-jhonk’- by the time the story ends,
you really wish you knew the two of them.
• Rasik Sampadak…a flirtatious editor who is a widower
and finds himself imagining his dream woman through a
poem written by her, only to find himself running
helter-skelter once he comes face to face with her.
Why? Find yourself laughing your head out when you see
the play unfold.
• Aansuon ki Holi…is a simple story of a simple man who
doesn’t like to celebrate festivals and how he has to
bear his notorious brother-in-laws who insist on making
his ‘Holi’ one he could cry over. However, a truth
lying buried inside of him comes out in the open
towards the end and leaves us all appreciate the true
meaning of festivities.
Known for their simplicity, proximity to reality and an
uncanny sense of humour, all these stories hold a
message that somehow touches you. Though he is known
for the serious issues and his satire, these stories
will reveal another shade of Premchand’s work; the
witty and humorous style he also possessed.
Munshi Premchand is looked upon as the leader of
Progressive Writing in Hindi Literature. Instead of
succumbing to recent spade of mediocre Hindi play
productions, it would boost the confidence of quality
theatre lovers to see this younger lot going back to
the roots and give a brand new look to the works of a
legend in his own right.
You are all welcome to witness Munshi Premchand’s
wonderful, humorous and touching stories take shape on
stage and leave you laughing for more.
