Sir/ Madam,
Ekjute, Mumbai’s leading
theatre group formed in 1981 by Mrs. Nadira Zaheer
Babbar, completes its 25th successful
year in 2006.
In a fast
paced city like Mumbai, where Hindi theatre has been
facing onslaught from commercial regional theatre,
glamour and glitz of films and television, Ekjute
has not only survived but also excelled with
quality plays like Sakubai, Dayashankar Ki Diary,
reviving traditional plays like “Yahudi Ki
Ladki”, Jasma Odhan… and great Indian modern
classic drama like “Sandhya Chhaya” which
have to great extent brought the audiences back to the
theatre.
To
commemorate its 25th year in existence,
Ekjute is organizing a grand festival entitled
“EKJUTE JASHN-E-BAHAAR – Rupehla
Natyamela” at Prithvi Theatre, Juhu, Mumbai
from 15th April to
30th April 2006.
This
festival will feature 12 running productions of Ekjute,
including two new plays “M. F.
Hussain’s Biography” being directed by Nadira
Zaheer Babbar and a Children’s Play. Platform
performances from our Traditional Folk forms, Street
Plays on socio-political topics, Theatre Workshops,
Chat Show-Face to Face, Exhibitions of Set and
Costumes, Felicitations of Old Theatre Backstage
Workers and The piece de resistance of the celebration
will be the “Jashn Ki Raat” a musical eve
dancing into the night, will be the other attractions
of this festival.
On this
auspicious occasion we are releasing a souvenir, which
will be designed by Shri M.
F. Hussain. The souvenir will have write-ups,
anecdotes, experiences from the eminent theatre
personalities. This souvenir is our effort to reach out
to the audiences of the festival with a piece of Art,
Literature to be preserved. The souvenir will reach out
to approximately 10,000 people by way of Audiences of
the plays, participants in Seminars, Workshops and
Exhibitions etc.
Your
esteemed Organization/ Institution has always supported
cultural activities especially theatre. We trust you
will continue to support the cause of theatre. Your
small contribution will go a long way to further the
cause of Performing Arts.
